“Find the jobs that need attention and summarize what is wrong.”
An IBM i workspace that can help
Ask your IBM i workspace to investigate and act.
Describe the result you need in plain language. The PristineScreen400 agent can read the current screen, work through the 5250 application, use its assigned IBM i tools, and return a clear answer in the same workspace.
Direct answer
What can the PristineScreen400 agent do?
It can inspect the visible 5250 screen, navigate an existing IBM i application, enter bounded text and keys, and use approved tools for jobs, messages, spooled output, IFS, Db2, objects, data queues, security, and registered workflows. Its exact abilities follow the access assigned to the current user and IBM i profile.
Start with the outcome
Ask for the work, not the route through the system.
The best requests describe what you need to know or complete. The agent can choose between the live application and its assigned IBM i tools, then combine the results into one useful response.
“Check the related messages and tell me the next useful step.”
“Locate the output for this workflow and show me its current state.”
“Open this order in the 5250 application and report its status.”
“Inspect the approved Db2 view and explain the matching records.”
“Summarize what you found in language the support team can use.”
One shared workspace
See the agent work beside the system it is helping with.
Chat does not replace the terminal or hide the IBM i tools. All three stay together. You can follow the task, inspect the live application, and review safe activity as the work continues.
Human control at every stage
Delegate the task without giving away the workspace.
The person who owns the workspace stays in charge. The agent starts paused. The owner can resume it, stop current work, take control of the terminal, reject an approval, clear the conversation, or disconnect the complete workspace.
Describe the result you need.
Follow useful tool progress.
Confirm a protected action when required.
Pause the agent and continue yourself.
Powered by iSeries MCP
One IBM i capability layer powers every agent experience.
PristineScreen400 Agent chat is powered by iSeries MCP. It gives built-in chat and reviewed local MCP clients the same assigned terminal actions and IBM i tools.
This shared foundation makes it possible to build focused operator assistants and local automation without creating a second path around workspace access, approvals, or Activity. MCP access is short-lived and local to the managed deployment. It is not a public IBM i endpoint.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about the IBM i agent
Can the agent use both the 5250 application and IBM i tools?
Yes. It can observe and use the live terminal, and it can call the eligible IBM i capabilities assigned to the current workspace. The available set can differ by user and IBM i profile.
Can the agent approve its own sensitive actions?
No. An action that requires approval waits for a person. The workspace owner can approve, reject, stop, or take control.
Does the user have to manage an MCP token to use Agent chat?
No. The built-in chat works inside the workspace and does not display an MCP token. MCP is a separate option for reviewed local integrations.
Does the conversation remain after the workspace closes?
No. Agent conversations are temporary workspace data and are removed when the workspace closes.
